In Sounds & Scenery, Duo Kalysta will present a concert of programmatic works for flute and harp, each directly inspired by the world outside of music. Some of these pieces are based only on a single word or title, while others were written with the intention of representing a distinct narrative. The program features music both old and new, from Claude Debussy’s classic “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun,” which depicts the daydreams of a faun drifting to sleep in the heat of the sun, to Canadian composer Jocelyn Morlock’s “Vespertine,” inspired by the mysterious flora and fauna that come to life in the dark of night.
